Around six years ago I was experimenting with video effects and recorded this cover of Machine Messiah. Since then, YouTube’s audio and video compression capabilities improved a lot so I figured that this one could be sort of remastered both sonic and visually. As I had the green screen behind me, and although the lighting put a big shadow on it, I decided to make some different video effects, not as flashy as the first version. Most of all, I hope now the sound is better and you enjoy this cover of one of my favourite Yes compositions and basslines!
Bass: Rickenbacker 4001 CS
Strings: Warwick Red Strings (45-105, stainless steel)
Preamp: Sansamp Bass Driver DI (BDDI)
Effects: Amplitube 3 – T-RackS CS Vintage Compressor 670
Signal path: Bass→BDDI→PC→T-RackS
Happy March days , Miguel !

Are you using mostly the front/neck pickup? or 50/50 of both? I’ve been chasing the Squire / Geddy Lee (moving pictures album) classic sound for many years. Never quite nailed it like you. Would love to see more in-depth settings on your rig. Maybe a future YouTube tutorial on knob turning? Also are you able to get this sound live?
@7:18, on the first time of the measure(exactly on “>>HIS<<tory dictating symptoms of ruling romance"), i hear a sound wich looks like a "low E" (played on E string) : it seems to have been played in overdub… do you agree ???
Mark, I always got the feeling that Chris pounded hard that E string. It’s not just the volume, it’s the string vibration and “clank”. I don’t think it’s an over dub!
